The Chester Volunteer Fire Department serves the residents and individuals travelling through Chester township in Meigs County, Ohio. The department is strictly volunteer and responds to incidents involving fire, motor vehicle accidents, spills, and other hazardous instances. The department aids in calls to neighboring townships and departments as well as landing zones for medically necessary helicopters and automatic alarms for school and medical institutions.

The Chester Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) is located at 46480 State Route 248 Chester, Ohio 45620. Phone number for the fire house is (740)985-4343. However, this line is only answered when members are present in the fire house.

Adult members are trained and certified through an approved training course and certified instructor. Junior members aid in tasks outside of hazardous situations such as pump tests, in-house training, and aiding members in preparation for emergencies. Training is on-going with the department participating and hosting training exercises such as controlled burns, extraction practice and coordination exercise. The department participates in the Hocking Valley Regional Fire School as well as other educational resources in the area.

The CVFD holds annual and semi-annual events for the purpose of fundraising. Those events include an annual catfish tournament, Memorial/Labor Day Chicken Barbeque, Fish Fry during the Chester Shade Days (held by the Chester Shade Historical Society.) Members hold and instruct educational presentations at the area schools for Fire Prevention Week-allowing children to explore fire trucks, become familiar with fully protected firemen, the importance of smoke alarms, and other areas to educate children of the importance of fire safety. The department aids in adding safety during the Trick-Or-Treat festivities and offers drinks/refreshments as well as medical assistance when necessary. The junior volunteer members hold a "Breakfast with Santa" fundraiser during the Christmas holiday.
